Certification of valves: classification and reference standards

02 April 2012

Certification of valves: classification and reference standardsIn the most common sense of the term, a valve is a basic component in a more complex mechanism of pipes and serves as a liquid, placed under pressure, can easily pass through or not, depending on its opening or closing through it, then escape and get to your destination. More precisely, a valve is located in the heart of this mechanism and is activated by an automatic and manual, able to regulate the delivery and the passage of fluids or gaseous substances.

In Russia, the valves at the end of their certification are divided into two categories: valves for industrial and civil use. For all valves for industrial use (gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, diaphragm valves) is requesting the certificate of conformity to the Technical Regulation n. 753 of 15/09/2009 "On the safety of machinery and equipment", which is a mandatory requirement for the manufacture and placing of same on the Russian market.

The valves for domestic use, with the exception of the valves used in domestic systems gaseous fuel (boilers, heating systems, ovens, etc..) Are not subject to mandatory certification. For valves for domestic gas demand is the declaration of conformity to the Technical Regulation n. 65 of 11/02/2010 "On safety of appliances burning gaseous fuels."

In the Russian Federation the valves according to their function are classified in the following way:
1) GOST 9697-87 R-off valves, minimum requirements;
2) GOST R 23866-87 valves with single or double seat, cage valves;
3) GOST R 27477-87 check valves (non return);
4) GOST 31294-2005 direct action safety (vent) valves.

And take that very often in the assessment of compliance so happens to certain types of valves, faucets, there are no shutters or reference standards. This is due, first, increasingly widespread use of new materials for the realization of the parts of the valve. All Russian national standards, better known as Standard Gost, were created for the valves and taps in steel or cast iron. While today for the manufacture of valves are increasingly used non-ferrous metals, plastic and composite materials.
The position of the Federal Agency on technical regulation and metrology, the question is to be applied in the mandatory certification of valves existing rules only in order to meet the minimum safety requirements, applicable to each type of valve.

Customs codes (HS code) of valves subject to obligatory certification in Russia are:

8481 (with the exception of 8481 20)
3925 90 200 0

It worth noting that unlike other products, spare parts of industrial valves and fittings (valve body, internal parts, flanges, fittings, joints, gaskets, etc..) Is also planned with the issue of mandatory certification GOST R required.
For valves used in water systems fire is also required certificate of conformity to the Technical Regulation no. 123 of 22/07/2008 "On fire safety".

In order to certify the valves are divided into the following groups and subgroups of filing domestic product:

37 0000 - Plumbing, industrial non-ferrous metals and alloys
